Spooky day out at Delaval Hall!

Two days to go until Halloween and there were some spooky doings up at Delaval Hall in Northumberland. We met nanna over there on a gloomy and slightly misty afternoon and set about on a ghoulish clue finding mission! We had to solve 13 clues and take letters from each answer to form a phrase. Not as easy as it sounded, and not without its heart stopping moments either!

After we solved all the puzzles nanna took us round the halls, over to the west wing and into the gardens. Such a lovely place and hard to imagine some of the old fashioned people in the paintings used to live here.

Looking around for clues, but who's that in the upstairs window...

Deep in the cold, dark cellars of the hall where no living person dare enter. Well, apart from me!

Is that something up there, nanna?

The living shall pass no further...

Outside we ventured into the fields to see the wonderfully crafted sheep sculptures before heading back in to the west wing to take in the artefacts. I also had a guided tour of the old church which was built at the time of William the Conqueror!

Here's a fun couple; Francis & Rhoda Delaval, who lived here in the 1700s.

Bit like a cyberman, only not as annoying.

But the scary stuff wasn't over - I was about to climb the stairs when I was stopped in my tracks!

And it looks like this lady had been stood up by her dinner guests. Poor lass.
