On arrival we checked in to the hotel and headed for the tube for treat #1. As we emerged from the Tube station we were impressed with the size of that giant clock; Big Ben they call it. We made our way through the busy street and over the bridge to....The London Eye!!
I wasn't sure what to expect but as we took off it became clear, the views on such a clear day were amazing. Daddy was trying to show me Buckingham Palace (Queen's house) in the distance, meanwhile Lori and mummy weren't faring so well. They were feeling a bit poorly because of the heights we were reaching. Daddy and I were having fun though!
We were so high in the sky that all the people below just looked like ants!
When we landed we made our way along the south bank, stopping to enjoy the various mime artists and other attractions dotted along the bank of the river. We particularly enjoyed these two mime artists, even popping a few coins in their hats and stopping for photos.
Winding our way along Baker Street we happened upon this mysterious chap, Sherlock Holmes, before we stopped for lunch and a well earned rest. Once we'd regained our 'land legs' we headed along the road for surprise #2.... Madame Tussauds!
I wasn't sure what to expect but mummy explained that they were all wax models of famous people. I even recognised some of them (!) and as we meandered through the impressive array of waxworks we marvelled at the skills and effort required to make such life-like mannequins. I particularly enjoyed seeing ET and having a go on the bike he was on!
We recognised these two fine athletes from the Olympics a couple of years ago, and below, we were only too happy to pose for a photo with this well dressed bunch!
We even saw The Beatles, Jimi Hendrix and Adele there! What a guest list!
We were pretty tired by this point and after a thoroughly fantastic, though tiring day we trouped back to the hotel to recharge our batteries and prepare for day 2!
The next day we got up nice and early, had breakfast and headed down on the short tube journey to Covent Garden. We were delighted to see the vast array of Sean the Sheep models positioned around the square, all decorated in different themes, styles and colours.
We had a quick walk through the market and in some of the shops before stopping at a lovely café in the main square.
There was just time for a quick hot chocolate and to enjoy a small birthday cake we brought for Lori's birthday before we wandered through the crowds to see this amazing guy & his friend entertain the crowds. I couldn't believe my eyes as he spun around on that wheel, upside down and round & round.
Keeping on eye on the time we headed into Leicester Square for a spot of lunch before walking round the corner for Lori's main, special surprise.... Matilda live in theatre!!!! In a lovely part of the city, and in a wonderful, old theatre the cast put on a magnificent show as they told the story of Matilda. There was singing and dancing, and incredible performances by all involved - we were sat when it came to a close but it was fitting that the entire cast & crew got a standing ovation at the end!
WE LOVE LONDON!! This was my first trip to London and I hope we can all come back again soon. In fact, everyone was so friendly and we all had such a good time that we're already starting to think about when we can come back! The main thing is that Lori had the time of her life, and what a wonderful weekend to celebrate a birthday of my wonderful big sister, Lori! Happy birthday sis xxx
